Barring any last-minute changes, the Governor Seyi Makinde-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party National Executive Committee is set to unveil a Tanimu Turaki (SAN)-led 10-member caretaker committee today just as top party source revealed the Oyo Governor has concluded plans to declare his presidential ambition on the platform of the party.

Multiple sources with knowledge of the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to comment on the issue, told our correspondent that Turaki emerged as the preferred choice of the Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees during its meeting held in Abuja on Sunday.

Opening the session, former Senate President Wabara vowed that the PDP would never surrender to what he described as political brigands, insisting that the party’s institutional integrity remains intact despite its internal disputes.

In a related development, a senior party source disclosed that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is expected to formally declare his presidential ambition within the week.

Reacting to the unfolding developments, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, aligned with the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee.

In a related development, another source disclosed that Governor Seyi Makinde would within the week formally declare his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the PDP platform.

The source said, “Makinde has repeatedly said he will remain in the PDP even if he is the last man standing. He is committed to the party and is currently the only PDP governor.

“He is expected to formally declare his presidential ambition between now and Saturday. He has no other platform aside from the PDP.”
The source added that despite the crisis, some party members remained optimistic that the PDP would overcome its internal challenges before the 2027 elections and remain competitive across all levels.
