Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde says the state is making conscious efforts to build a formidable and effective fire prevention and fire fighting outfit in order to prevent incessant fire outbreaks in the state.

Makinde who was ably represented by his Deputy, Rauf Olaniyan stated this at the commissioning of two fire fighting trucks for the use of Federal Fire Service in the state.

He added that action is at advance stage to procure five state of the art fire fighting trucks for the state fire fighting service which was recently upgraded in to an agency for effective performance in line with the agenda of the Oyo State Government on security and economy.

Makinde noted that “you will agree with me that prevention of losses caused by fire disasters and other related emergencies is highly important and as such proactive fire prevention should be everybody’s business so as to prevent avoidable losses with the resultant effects on national development.”

“In order to have rapid sustainable national development, there is the need for collaboration among the three tiers of government, corporate bodies, relevant associations and individual to put in place necessary proactive measures to reduce losses through fire and other disasters.”

In his remark, the Controller-General,Federal Fire Service, Dr Liman Ibrahim who was represented by his Assistant, Calistus Agu, said the recent spate of fire outbreaks in Oyo State prompted the Federal Fire Service to deploy the two state of the art fighting trucks to the state with the view to ensuring the safety of lives and property of the citizens of Nigeria.

He noted that the deployment of these huge assets to Oyo State is to complement the efforts of the state fire service in order to improve their fire fighting skills and enhance service delivery.
