The Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Sports, Hon Tobi Oyewumi has organised a Tennis Championship in commemoration of the Governor’s birthday which comes up on the 25th December, 2020.
The competition which is tagged “GSM TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP will hold between 22 to 24th December at Recreation Club, Ibadan.
Speaking with with GOALPOACHER NEWS correspondent, Hon Tobi said aside that the championship will be staged to celebrate His Excellency, Governor Makinde’s birthday, the competition is also geared towards preparing our tennis players towards the next National Sports Festival billed to hold in Edo State. His words:
“Let’s know who is who, who are those that are good enough for to represent us at the competition.”
Speaking on the selection process, the Governor’s aide said,
” there are over twelve 12 tennis clubs in Oyo State, including clubs in Saki, Ogbomoso. I can confidently tell you that participants were drawn from both Saki and Ogbomoso clubs for them to have fair representation.”
On the prizes to be won, Hon Tobi noted that there are cash prizes to be won and substantial prizes to be won. He however stressed that supper veterans tennis players will be compensated with prizes though not cash at the competition but they are needed for the competitive spirit to celebrate the Christmas season and our amiable Governor’s birthday.
He added that the championship will be held annually beyond 2027 when Governor Seyi Makinde would have completed his tenure.
Dignitaries at expected at the championship include: Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Debo Ogundoyin, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Bisi Ilaka, Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Asiwaju Seun Fakorede amnog other top government functionaries and prominent sports Icons.
