The newly commissioned Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Office in Abuja has become a major rallying point for political stakeholders backing Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The commissioning, which attracted national leaders, prominent politicians and influential stakeholders from both the ruling party and opposition political camps, underscored the growing political momentum behind the Makinde/Daura presidential ticket.
Among the notable personalities at the event was the federal lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as DON, who expressed confidence in Makinde’s capacity to provide a new direction for Nigeria if elected president.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Oyekunle said his optimism was rooted in Makinde’s record of governance in Oyo State, where, according to him, the governor has demonstrated that purposeful leadership can translate into tangible development.
The lawmaker said Makinde’s experience in managing the affairs of Oyo State gives Nigerians sufficient reason to believe that he can replicate the same approach at the national level.
“I am optimistic that Governor Seyi Makinde will correct many of the wrongs that previous leaders have inflicted on this country. We have seen what he has been able to achieve in Oyo State, and that gives us confidence in what he can do for Nigeria,” Oyekunle said.
He said Nigerians should look beyond political rhetoric and unrealistic promises when making their choice in 2027, urging voters to prioritise competence, character, experience and verifiable performance.
According to him, the country needs leadership capable of confronting its challenges with practical solutions rather than promises that do not translate into improved living conditions.
Oyekunle argued that Nigerians have endured significant economic hardship and deserve a leadership that understands their struggles and possesses the capacity to address them.
He described Makinde as a leader with the experience and temperament required to provide such leadership, insisting that his record in Oyo State remains a practical reference point.
“From my experience and what we have witnessed in Oyo State, I believe Nigerians will experience fresh waters under an APM government. We must choose quality leadership over unrealistic promises. Nigerians deserve better than the hardship they are currently experiencing,” he added.
The Ibadan North lawmaker further called on Nigerians, particularly young people, to actively participate in the 2027 political process and make their votes count for competent and accountable leadership.
He maintained that the significance of the Abuja campaign office commissioning goes beyond the opening of a physical structure, describing it as a demonstration of the growing coalition of political actors committed to the Makinde/Daura project.
The event brought together political figures from different backgrounds, including members of the party and opposition personalities, in what observers described as a significant display of support for Makinde’s presidential ambition.
Oyekunle urged supporters of the presidential bid to remain focused on issues that affect ordinary Nigerians, stressing that the ultimate objective should be the emergence of a government capable of restoring economic confidence, improving security, creating opportunities and strengthening national unity.
He expressed confidence that the Makinde/Daura campaign would gain further momentum as the 2027 election approaches, urging Nigerians to assess candidates based on their records and capacity rather than political propaganda.
