The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Makinde on Better Education Service Delivery for All, Hon. Sunday Moses Adeyanju has assured parents and guardians that mass literacy will commence in all the Local Government of interventions after the menace of coronavirus must have been eradicated and pupils are given clean bill of health to resume learning activities at their various schools.

The Governor’s aide revealed this in an interview with newsmen at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Secretariat. Hon Adeyanju said Oyo used to be among the states with the highest numbers of out of school children.

He noted that the menace has reduced since Governor Makinde introduced new education policies which enhanced more enrolment of pupils in public schools.

    Hon Adeyanju said,
“For now Oyo state was estimated to have about four hundred thousand out of school children before the present administration came on board, what the Better Education Service Delivery for All intends to achieve is to ensure there is drastic reduction in this menace by bringing the numbers of the menace of the out of school children to the barest minimum and to total eradication.”

“Oyo state BESDA has achieved very reasonably to a very large extent. The BESDA program is a new program, what we have done include the advocacy and policy dialogue, we have been able to introduce the program to all the stakeholders.”

“Since the commencement of the program, we have been able to see stakeholders discuss what BESDA is all about, the policies, objectives and the strategies with which we can achieve the program objective of BESDA that’s, increasing equitable accessibility education for all.”

“Major challenges that we have been facing with regards to BESDA include statistics and data,it is so unfortunate that we haven’t been so accurate with figure in this country.”

“The last time the figure was updated was in 2015 and we have experienced increase in the figure of out of school children from the Northern part of the country owing to the occurrence of insurgency which has led to the influx of people from the Northern part to the Southern region of the country.”

“BESDA is on the second stage which has to do with procurement. We are doing the procurement of materials which has to be used for the implementation of the project.”

“Some of the materials will have to include instructional materials, the textbooks.”

“After the COVID-19 pandemic, the BESDA literacy will commence in all the Local Government of interventions in the state.”

” What we expect from the people of Oyo State is that they should cooperate with Governor Seyi Makinde and BESDA to ensure that every child in Oyo State is given qualitative education because there is no way we talk about the future of the state without proper education for the coming generation and so, we will keep the mandate and ensure that we attain the objective of BESDA.” Hon.Adeyanju concludes.
