MR PROJECTS: How Hon. Seun Olufade Silenced the Doubters and Sparked an Infrastructure Revolution in Ibadan North

When Hon. Seun Olufade emerged in 2024 as the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for Ibadan North Local Government, scepticism was swift and unforgiving. His credentials were questioned. His capacity was doubted.

Pundits whispered that the largest and most politically complex local government in Oyo State demanded a heavier hand, a louder voice, a more familiar name.

Yet, history has a curious way of humbling critics. Much like Seyi Makinde, whose own ascension to power in 2019 was initially dismissed by some before he went on to redefine governance in Oyo State, Olufade’s trajectory has followed a remarkably similar path, from doubt to distinction, from scrutiny to success.

Today, in Ibadan North, he bears a title earned not through propaganda but through performance: Mr Projects.

In a local government where infrastructure had long cried out for renewal, Olufade responded not with rhetoric but with results.

Roads once riddled with potholes and neglect have been reconstructed, restoring dignity to communities and unlocking economic movement.

These rehabilitated arteries now pulse with renewed commercial life, easing transportation for residents and signalling a government attentive to practical needs.
Commerce, too, has found fresh footing under his watch.

The construction of ultra-modern shops has injected vitality into the local economy, providing traders and entrepreneurs with organised, secure and attractive spaces from which to operate.

These developments are not mere structures of brick and mortar; they are engines of enterprise, stimulating productivity and strengthening internally generated revenue.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the transformation of Bodija International Market, whose infrastructural upgrade has enhanced accessibility, improved organisation and elevated its status as a commercial nerve centre.

What was once burdened by infrastructural inadequacies now stands as a testament to purposeful governance.

Orderliness, often elusive in bustling urban centres, has equally been prioritised. Modern motor parks strategically constructed across the local government have introduced structure and discipline to vehicular operations.

Motorists and transport operators now function within coordinated environments that promote safety, reduce congestion and reflect a new standard of urban management in Ibadan North.

Yet Olufade’s vision has extended beyond commerce and transportation to the very foundation of societal progress, education.

New blocks of classrooms have been constructed, while ageing school buildings have undergone significant renovation, replacing decay with dignity.

Pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools have also benefited from the distribution of instructional materials, ensuring that improved learning environments are matched with the tools necessary for academic excellence. It is an investment not merely in buildings, but in the minds and futures of a generation.

Perhaps most impactful has been the provision of potable water across all twelve wards of Ibadan North. In communities where access to clean water once posed daily hardship, taps now flow with reliability.

This intervention speaks to governance that understands public health, household welfare and human dignity as inseparable from development.
In less than a full political cycle, Hon. Seun Olufade has transformed scepticism into admiration.

He has demonstrated that leadership is not validated by noise but by tangible change. In the largest local government in Oyo State, where expectations were formidable and scrutiny intense, he has delivered an infrastructure-driven renaissance that few anticipated but many now applaud.

Mr Projects is not a slogan. It is a record. It is the story of a leader who turned doubt into drive, and ambition into achievement.

In Ibadan North, the evidence is not whispered, it is built in concrete, flowing through water pipes, echoing in renovated classrooms and thriving in revitalised markets.
