The lawmaker representing Ibadan Southwest/Northwest Federal Constituency, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, widely known as Odidiomo, has successfully facilitated a transformative digital literacy and data protection training programme for 600 youths in the Federal Constituency, in a groundbreaking initiative to equip the next generation with essential 21st-century skills.

Collaborating with the Federal College of Horticulture in Dadin Kowa, the training aimed to prepare participants for the demands of the digital economy.

Attendees gained insights into cutting-edge innovations, positioning them to compete on a global stage.

The comprehensive curriculum covered vital topics, including basic computer operations, internet usage, digital marketing, cybersecurity, and the fundamental principles of data protection and privacy.

This initiative underscores Odidiomo’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and enhancing the prospects of young Nigerians.

In his remarks, delivered by his Senior Legislative Assistant, Kunle Folarin, Hon. Olajide emphasised the importance of digital literacy.

“Digital literacy is not just an advantage; it is a necessity,” he asserted, expressing optimism that the training would unlock new opportunities for participants and equip them with the skills to protect their online identities.

He urged the youths to be cautious with their personal information online, advising them to use strong passwords, be wary of phishing scams, and stay vigilant in their digital interactions.

Dr. Vincent O. Olatunji, National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), represented by Mrs. Abiola Jide-Abe, highlighted the programme’s goal of instilling foundational digital skills.

He called on Nigerians to take proactive steps to safeguard their personal data and expressed hope that this initiative would inspire similar programmes throughout the state and beyond, fostering a digitally literate and secure society.

Meanwhile, participants expressed their enthusiasm, noting that the training not only enhanced their understanding of digital technologies but also empowered them with the skills needed to navigate the digital landscape confidently, signaling a significant turning point in their personal and professional development.
