Oloye Suraj Tiamy Refutes “Crisis in the Classroom” Claims, Highlights Makinde’s Educational Achievements

The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Education Intervention, Oloye Suraj Tiamy, has dismissed recent reports claiming that Oyo State’s education system is in crisis, describing them as inaccurate and misleading.

The reaction came following a feature titled, “Crisis In The Classroom: Oyo State’s Education System On Life Support” by Oluwadamilola Akinrinade Emmanuel, which painted a bleak picture of the state’s primary and secondary schools.

In a statementnon on Tuesday, Tiamy said the claims do not reflect the reality on the ground, highlighting ongoing government interventions aimed at improving the sector, including the renovation and construction of over 300 classrooms, establishment of ICT and digital learning centers, and provision of functional libraries and learning materials across the state.

“Our monitoring teams confirmed that students are engaged and benefiting from modern learning facilities. Teachers are being trained, supported, and motivated to deliver quality education. To describe our schools as being on ‘life support’ is simply not true,” Tiamy stated.

He added that the administration has prioritised teacher welfare and accountability, ensuring that educators are equipped to meet modern teaching standards.

Tiamy called on critics to verify facts before publication, stressing that constructive criticism should reflect the progress and reforms achieved under Governor Makinde’s administration.

“Governor Makinde’s tenure has seen significant investments in education infrastructure, teacher development, ICT integration, and student learning resources, positioning Oyo State as one of the leaders in educational reform in southwestern Nigeria,” he said.
