Omo Iya Eleja: From Ibadan Streets Eying the National Stage in 2027

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, a familiar name from the grassroots is aiming for a place in Nigeria’s national legislature. Hon. Ibrahim Ajiboye, widely known as Omo Iya Eleja, has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives, seeking to represent the Ibadan Northeast/Southeast Federal Constituency.

While his reputation is built on local engagement, Omo Iya Eleja is framing his campaign around the capacity of the federal government to deliver tangible development.

He argued that effective representation at the national level must go beyond speeches and policy statements, it must translate into measurable improvements in education, infrastructure, economic opportunities, and empowerment for ordinary citizens.

“My decision to contest is driven by the desire to bring the concerns of our people directly to the national legislature. Federal policy should not be distant from everyday realities. Representation must deliver visible results for communities,“ he said.

Omo Iya Eleja cited his extensive grassroots experience as proof of his readiness for the national stage. From supporting small traders in Ibadan markets to implementing youth empowerment initiatives, his track record demonstrates practical solutions to challenges that mirror broader national issues: unemployment, limited access to capital, and educational gaps.

Analysts note that candidates with deep local connections who can navigate national policy discussions often become influential voices in the House of Representatives.

Omo Iya Eleja’s focus on linking federal resources to local priorities, such as infrastructure projects and economic empowerment programmes, positions him as a candidate capable of bridging the gap between Abuja and the streets of Ibadan.

Beyond constituency-level development, Ajiboye emphasises unity and collective action as critical to national progress. “Strong representation requires that communities speak with one voice at the federal level.“

“Through effective advocacy, we can ensure that the policies passed in Abuja have a meaningful impact at home,” he said.

For constituents, his national vision is rooted in tangible outcomes: better roads, enhanced education opportunities, improved market facilities, and youth employment schemes.

For Omo Iya Eleja, Ibadan Northeast/Southeast is not just a constituency, it is a model for how federal representation can translate local knowledge into national solutions.

As the elections approach, all eyes are on whether this grassroots leader can leverage his record of local engagement to shape national policy, and in doing so, deliver the results he promises for his community and beyond.
