Kingmakers of Oniroko stool under the Akinyele Local Government Traditional Council have implored Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasidi Ladoja to help fast-track the process of installing a new monarch for the town.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the kingmakers of Oniroko Council of Chiefs stated this while addressing journalists on the vacuum of Oniroko stool.

Among those who spoke were the Balogun of Iroko, Chief Jacob Adetunji, Iyalode of Iroko, Chief Silifat Ibiwunmi Yusuf, Ekerin Oniroko, Chief Isiaka Adeleke from Dakeja Village and the Secretary Oniroko-in-Council, Dr Moshood Abioye.

The Balogun of Iroko revealed that the town needs a head and that the Abioye family has agreed and presented Prince Obasola Adeyemi to fill the stool.

Chief Adetunji added that the name has been submitted to the local government for ratification.

The Ekerin Oniroko noted that the head of Opeola family, Professor Abioye, submitted the name of Prince Obasola Adeyemi Opeola to the kingmakers after a joint decision by the family, adding that the kingmakers have also screened the nominee.

The Iyalode of Iroko, Chief Silifat Ibiwunmi Yusuf, urged Governor Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, to assist the town in installing the new Oniroko.

On his part, the Secretary of Oniroko-In-Council, Dr Moshood Abioye, stated that the kingmakers followed the 1959 Declaration, which led to the emergence of Prince Adeyemi as the only nominee for the Oniroko stool.

The council secretary urged Governor Makinde and Oba Ladoja to assist in getting a new monarch and guard against external forces.
