The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has said the decision of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, to stay away from the commissioning of the LAMECO Flyover in Osogbo has been vindicated following reports of alleged structural defects on the newly inaugurated project.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Head of Media and Publicity of the campaign council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the APC claimed the monarch, a trained engineer, exercised sound professional judgment by declining the invitation to the commissioning ceremony.
The opposition party alleged that the flyover, reportedly constructed at a cost exceeding ₦20 billion, is already showing signs of structural distress, including a deep pothole and other visible defects, barely a month after it was commissioned.
According to the APC, it had earlier advised the Olubadan not to allow his professional reputation to be used to lend credibility to a project whose quality had become a subject of public concern.
The council said the monarch neither attended the event nor sent a representative, a decision it described as prudent in light of the reported condition of the flyover.
The APC further called on the Osun State Government to immediately shut down the flyover and commission an independent structural integrity assessment by qualified professionals to ensure the safety of road users.
It also urged motorists to exercise caution and, where possible, avoid using the bridge until it is certified safe.
The Adeleke administration has yet to respond to the allegations contained in the APC statement.
