Osun Guber: “Every political establishment appears unbeatable—until the people decide otherwise”

The Reset Nigeria Movement commends the people of Osun State for their remarkable resilience, courage and steadfastness in the face of the challenges that characterised the recent political struggle in the state.

The outcome is a powerful reminder that democracy ultimately belongs to the people. It reminds us that Nigerians must never lose faith in their ability to determine the direction of their country through their votes and convictions. Above all, it is a reminder that the most powerful tool in the hands of Nigerians is their vote.

As Nigeria looks towards 2027, we urge citizens across the country to remain firm in their convictions and exercise their democratic rights without fear, intimidation or manipulation. Nigerians must be free to choose the leaders they believe can best serve their interests.

Leadership must be earned through the trust of the people and sustained through accountability, competence and a genuine commitment to public service. Nigerians must therefore remain vigilant against every attempt to undermine their political choices and remain courageous in standing for the Nigeria they believe is possible.

The Movement specifically commends His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, FNSE, for standing firmly with His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke, throughout this difficult political journey. His solidarity demonstrated that political courage is not merely about winning elections; it is also about standing for democratic principles when doing so is difficult.

Governor Makinde’s steadfast support reflected the importance of loyalty, courage and solidarity in democratic politics, as well as his belief in the people’s mandate and their right to freely determine who governs them.

We remember Governor Makindes profound statement that “The 2027 election won’t be PDP versus APC; it would be Nigerians versus APC.” In this round of the fight, Nigerians won.

The lesson from Osun is therefore bigger than Osun. It has shown that when citizens remain resolute and refuse to surrender their convictions, the power of the people can prevail over even the most formidable political establishment. We are convinced that, armed with the lessons from Osun, Nigerians will emerge victorious in 2027 by standing firmly for their democratic choices.

We also mourn the Nigerians who lost their lives to the violence that characterised the election. Every life lost in the pursuit of political power is one life too many. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and call for accountability. Elections must never become a battlefield, and no political ambition is worth the life of a Nigerian.

As we journey towards 2027, we call on Nigerians to remain resolute, informed and courageous. Let us choose leaders who represent our aspirations, defend the interests of the people and possess the capacity, competence and character to move Nigeria forward.

Osun has shown what is possible when the people stand their ground.
In 2027, Nigerians must stand even stronger.
The will of the people must prevail.
