The Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA), on Tuesday distributed cheques to fourteen communities to access drinkable water and provide toilets for some public schools.

This gesture, according to the Chairman of the agency, Hon. Abideen Adetokunbo Adeaga was targeted at nipping in the bud, cases of cholera water-borne diseases as well as other communicable diseases that have been reported in some States in Nigeria.

Adeaga notes that the fund is part of the NIgeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) intervention projects to cater for fourteen communities across Oyo State in the areas of education, water and sanitation, health and erosion control.

“The fourteen communities have earlier been given funds for the commencement of construction and renovation of classrooms, culverts, community health centers among others, but today, they were given another cheques for drilling of boreholes and construction of toilets in the schools concerned.

“We target these projects as directed by His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, that all hands must be on deck to ward off cholera, water-borne diseases and to put an end to open defecation.

“The benefiting communities will immediately embark on the projects according to the dictate of the agency’s Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach, as the community members have been saddled with enough knowledge after our initial training to embark on the projects.”

Among the communities are Lagbedu-Orile at Ogo-Oluwa local government, Olorunsogo-Ifesowapo at Ogbomoso North local government, Oremeji Community at Ona-Ara local government and Opeodu-Alapata-Oja Baale community at Lagelu local government.
