Oyo 2027: Fatai Owoseni’s Political Future Stirs Debate Among Political Class
Speculations have continued to trail the political journey of the Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Seyi Makinde, CP Fatai Owoseni (rtd), as political watchers and residents of Oyo State weighed two possible ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
For some time, many residents across the state have believed that the former Commissioner of Police harbours a governorship ambition, a view reinforced by his prominence within the current administration and his sustained engagement in public affairs.
However, findings by Goalpoachernews indicated that Owoseni may instead be aspiring to contest the Oyo South Senatorial seat in 2027.
Sources familiar with the evolving political landscape cautioned that this development is not yet definite, noting that political permutations, alignments and consultations are still ongoing and could alter his eventual decision.
They maintained that the dual speculations reflected Owoseni’s growing political relevance and the widening acceptance of his leadership profile across different segments of the state.
Some analysts believed that his eventual decision will likely hinge on broader political calculations and the evolving landscape within Oyo State’s dominant political blocs.
Owoseni’s rising profile has been further amplified by his recent conferment with the prestigious traditional title of Atunluse-Ilu Adini of Oyo State.
The honour was bestowed by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, alongside the League of Imams and Alfas of Oyo State, in recognition of his enduring service to the nation and significant contributions to peace and security.
The religious leaders described the title as a confirmation of Owoseni’s exemplary leadership qualities, dedication to community development, and unwavering commitment to integrity and service, attributes that have defined his long career in public service.
CP Owoseni’s professional journey spanned over 35 years of distinguished service in the Nigeria Police Force, during which he rose through the ranks to attain the position of Commissioner of Police.
His career was marked by strategic postings and a reputation for discipline, operational competence and people-oriented policing.
Following his retirement from active service, he has remained a central figure in Oyo State’s governance and security framework.
He currently serves as Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde and Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund, positions that placed him at the heart of policy formulation and implementation on security matters in the state.
Beyond his professional experience, Owoseni is also a seasoned academic and security expert, holding a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies (Security Sector Management) from the University of Ibadan and a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Diplomacy from the University of Benin, qualifications that have strengthened perceptions of his readiness for higher political responsibility.
Meanwhile, as political activities gradually intensify ahead of 2027, analysts observed that Owoseni’s combination of security expertise, administrative experience, traditional recognition and academic grounding will continue to fuel interest in his next political move, whether towards the Agodi Government House or the National Assembly, keeping his ambitions firmly in the public spotlight.
