Oyo 2027: Makinde May Dump PDP if…

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde may consider leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if ongoing court cases favour the faction led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

A source who spoke with Goalpoachernews on the condition of anonymity revealed that the governor has been closely monitoring the unfolding legal battles within the party.

The source said, “Governor Makinde has always prioritised stability and fairness in his political engagements. He is deeply concerned about the recent court rulings and how they might shift the balance of power in favour of Wike’s faction.”

The source added, “Makinde is not making any hasty decisions yet, but he is clear-eyed about the implications. If the courts continue to rule in a way that consolidates Wike’s influence, he may feel compelled to explore alternative political platforms to protect his mandate and political future.”

Political analysts suggest that Makinde’s potential departure from the PDP could have far-reaching consequences ahead of the 2027 general elections in the state.

With his strong grassroots support in the South-West, a defection could trigger realignments among other influential politicians and significantly alter the political dynamics in the region.

The source further explained, “Makinde’s loyalty to the PDP has always been conditional on the party operating transparently and equitably.

According to him, the current factional disputes are testing that loyalty, adding that, “He is watching closely, and his next move will depend entirely on how the courts resolve these conflicts.”

Meanwhile, PDP officials continue to maintain that the party is committed to resolving internal disputes through due legal processes and remains united in its mission to prepare for the 2027 elections.
