Oyo Govt Approves N399m to Procure Chemicals For Water Treatment, Implementation of Mini Grid For N575M
Oyo State Government has approved the procurement of one thousand, one hundred and ninety four (1,194), Aluminum Sulfate, for water treatment in the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun disclosed this while briefing Governors Office correspondents on Wednesday on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
Olatunbosun said the quantity approved by the council will cost three hundred and ninety nine million, nine hundred and ninety thousand (399,990). He noted that the chemicals will be distributed to all the branches of Water Corporation in the state. His words:
“We are here to brief you on the outcome of the 6th State Executive Council meeting. We deliberated and approved the procurement for the chemical called Aluminum Sulfate, a water treatment chemical, which will be used for proper water treatment to produce good drinking water and meet up with the Nigerian standard for drinking water quality.
“For some time, Water Corporation could not give water to the generality of our people and they presented a brief to the State’s Exco that they needed to procure chemical. The quantity that the Council agreed to procure is 1,194 tonnes of Aluminium Sulfate at the rate of 335,000 per tonne, which will give us N399,990,000. And this will be distributed to all the branches of Water Corporation in the state so that they will be able to give portable water to people in the areas, which it is needed.
“This has confirmed that Governor Seyi Makinde led-administration is very passionate about the welfare of the people of the state.”
On his part, the Commissioner for Energy and Solid Minerals, Seun Ashamu says the Executive Council also approved the implementation of mini grid scheme for rural communities that have economic activities but are not connected to the National Grid.
Ashamu affirmed that the first roll out of the scheme comprises of four Local Governments namely: Ajia in Ona Ara, Otefon in Atiba, Shaamu in Iwajowa and Orisunmibare in Ogbomoso South.
The Commissioner added that the projects will be handled by four contractors for the total sum of five hundred and seventy five million naira (#575M).
According to Seun Ashamu, the projects when completed will serve public facilities and residences in the communities.
