The Oyo State Government is actively seeking to enhance its regulatory capabilities in the electricity sector through a collaborative initiative with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

A delegation from Oyo State, who represented Hon Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in the state, Barrister Seun Ashamu, engaged with NERC officials in Abuja as part of an ongoing Peer Learning and Twinning programme.

The visit aims to facilitate a smooth transition of regulatory oversight of the electricity market from NERC to the Oyo State Government.

This strategic partnership is designed to empower state officials with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively manage and regulate the electricity market, ensuring that Oyo State meets its energy needs sustainably.

During this week, the Oyo State delegates will participate in interactive sessions with various NERC divisions, including Legal, Licensing and Compliance, Engineering and Performance Monitoring, Market Competitions, and Rates.

These sessions will provide invaluable insights into best practices and regulatory frameworks that are essential for the successful oversight of the electricity market.

According to the commissioner, the state government is committed to ensuring that its electricity sector operates efficiently and meets the demands of its citizens.

He said the collaboration with NERC is a significant step towards strengthening the state’s energy management strategies.
