Two traditional rulers have been suspended by Oyo State Government within the last three weeks.

The latest suspension was that of the Baale of Ilua in Saki West local government area of the State, Chief Kilani Ajani, who was alleged by the office of the Director-General, Oyo State Solid Minerals Development Agency, Mr. Abiodun Oni, to have issued letter of consent for mining licence.

The commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Mr Olusegun Olayiwola, subsequently issued a letter of suspension to the Baale.

According to the commissioner for information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, another traditional ruler, the Onido of Ido, in Ido local government area of the State, Oba Gbolagade Muritala Babalola (Gbadewolu I) was suspended for similar offence early this month.

The commissioner said that the suspension was necessary to quell unrest in the communities and to allow for fair investigation.

He added further that these are clear signals that the state government will descend heavily on anyone no matter their status, who flouts the law in the state.
