As the state House of assembly re-run election for Saki West state constituency in Oyo State is drawing to a close, tension has begun to rise, with security forces stepping up their presence in an effort to prevent any possible outbreaks of violence at the two polling stations of Odo-Osun and Ogbalanja in the town.
The election, which was called for re-run by a court order after allegations of some irregularities in the general election of March 18 last year, had already begun to witness a number of unrest, and officials were concerned that tempers could boil over possible manipulation of results.
As of the time of filing this report, more security personnel have been drafted to the two polling stations and are on high alert, with many stationed outside of the polling stations and others patrolling the streets to maintain order.
