Oyo Speaker, Ogundoyin Marks 39th Birthday, Gifts Temidire Community a Newly Constructed Secondary School
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin, on Tuesday marked his 39th birthday in a remarkable and impactful manner by officially opening and handing over a newly constructed secondary school to the Oyo State Government in Temidire Community, Ibarapa East Local Government Area.
The project was commissioned on behalf of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Olusegun Olayiwola.
The event attracted top government functionaries, traditional rulers, community leaders, party faithful, and residents of the area.
In his address, Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin gave glory to God for the opportunity to witness what he described as a historic milestone for Temidire and its surrounding villages.
He recalled that before the construction of the school, about fourteen villages with no fewer than fourteen primary schools had no single secondary school to accommodate graduating pupils.
Consequently, students were compelled to travel long distances to Oloke in Abeokuta, Ogun State, or to Eruwa town to continue their education, a situation that posed financial burdens, safety risks, and contributed to school dropouts.
“Today’s event is not just about commissioning structures; it is about fulfilling a promise, restoring hope, and securing the future of our children. Promise made, promise kept,” the Speaker declared.
The newly constructed secondary school comprises two blocks of three spacious and well-ventilated classrooms each, bringing the total to six classrooms.
Each block is equipped with staff offices and a Principal’s office to ensure effective academic administration.
In addition, a separate building housing two modern toilet facilities for staff and students was constructed to promote proper hygiene and sanitation.
The school has been fully furnished to provide a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
With the formal handover to the state government, the school is expected to commence full academic activities in September with its pioneer intake of students for the new academic session.
Describing the coincidence of the commissioning with his 39th birthday as a “double celebration,” Ogundoyin said there could be no better way to mark his birthday than by giving back to his people and investing in the educational advancement of the younger generation.
The Speaker reiterated that his commitment to grassroots development remains steadfast.
He disclosed that another secondary school project at Ojonamo in Lanlate is nearing completion, while the Maya Town Hall project is also at an advanced stage.
He further highlighted other legacy projects across Ibarapa East, including the construction and commissioning of a functional Primary Health Centre at Lagaye, the building of a mosque at Oloro, completion of the Eruwa Youth Movement Secretariat, construction of a cold room for butchers, sinking of about 40 boreholes across communities, facilitation of employment opportunities, students’ bursary awards, and empowerment programmes for constituents.
Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin appreciated the Temidire community for their cooperation and patience during the execution of the project and commended the contractors and artisans for delivering quality work in line with approved standards.
He urged parents, teachers, and students to take ownership of the facility and protect it as a collective asset, emphasizing that education remains the most powerful tool for societal transformation and sustainable development.
