In a significant stride towards bolstering Oyo State’s energy sector, Governor Seyi Makinde has etched his name in the annals of history by signing into law the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill 2024. The historic event took place on Friday, 9th of February 2023, at the Conference Room of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

This pivotal move underscores the administration’s commitment to charting a course towards sustainable electricity provision within the state.

Governor Makinde, speaking at the signing ceremony, emphasized the importance of the bill in paving the way for Oyo State to develop its own roadmap to sustainable electricity.

He highlighted the significance of decentralizing electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, asserting that such measures are pivotal in ensuring that Nigerians can access the dividends of democracy through effective federalism and devolution of powers to the states.

With the enactment of the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill 2024, Governor Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s promise to empower the state to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity within its borders.

He underscored the transformative potential of such legislative amendments, citing them as crucial steps towards achieving fiscal federalism and enhancing accountability in governance.

By granting states the authority to oversee energy provision, citizens can hold their governments accountable for ensuring reliable electricity supply.

Indeed, Governor Makinde’s visionary leadership, coupled with the unwavering dedication of Barrister Seun Ashamu, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, has propelled Oyo State towards a brighter future.

The passage of this bill marks a watershed moment in the state’s quest for energy sufficiency and economic prosperity.

With the legal framework in place, Oyo State is poised to attract investments, foster a sustainable power sector, and provide its residents with dependable electricity services.

As the ink dries on the pages of history, Governor Makinde and Barrister Seun Ashamu stand as architects of progress, their names inscribed in gold for their unwavering commitment to the development of Oyo State.

With the enactment of the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Bill 2024, the stage is set for a new era of growth, innovation, and prosperity in the state’s energy landscape.
