OYRTMA CLAMPS DOWN ON FAKE MAYORS; INTRODUCES NEW IDENTIFICATION REGIME

The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) has disclosed the commencement of a new identification regime for her OYRTMA Mayors to stem the tide of persistent impersonation by some unscrupulous individuals who parades themselves as legitimate Mayors of the Authority and thereby defrauding unsuspecting members of the public through back-door collection of fines and sanctions.

This was contained in a statement issued today Monday, 8th of June 2020 by the Executive Chairman, Mogaji (Dr.) Akin Fagbemi at the administrative headquarters of the Authority in Ibadan.

In part, the Executive Chairman stated, “our attention has been drawn to the rampant impersonation of our legitimate Mayors who are trained individuals with acceptable moral conduct and standard operational procedures cum rules of engagement. We condemn this act in its entirety and we, by this public announcement, wish to issue stern warning to all individuals or groups who might want to take advantage of the engagement of the Mayors to perpetuate frauds and collect illegal and unauthorized fines.

The Authority has devised several means to identify the Authentic Mayors among which is the bogusly crested reflective jacket carrying the unique ‘OPERATIONAL NUMBER’ attached to each mayor whose full details are on the Authority’s central database.”, he said.

Dr. Fagbemi further said that “sequel to numerous public complaints, the Provost Unit of the Authority shall henceforth embark on serious monitoring and evaluation of the activities of all engaged Mayors to monitor compliance to the Authority’s rules of engagement and anyone found wonton would be relieved of his roles, dismissed and prosecuted”.

He however enjoined members of the public to take note of the unique operational numbers crested on the reflective jackets of the Mayors in cases of any perceived illegality or injustice.
