Prioritize Peace, Unity, Development of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Urges Newly Installed Araba
The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, has urged the newly installed Araba of Ogbomosoland, Dr. Alao Opeyemi Makinde, to prioritize peace, unity, and the development of the community in his role.
The coronation ceremony, conducted by the Asiwaju Awo Ile Ogbomoso, Oloye Olayiwola Akanmu, was held at Abata within the historic palace of Ogbomoso.
In his address, Oba Ghandi encouraged the new Araba to make traditional religion appealing to the youth while fostering harmony among different faiths. He said, “Do everything to make your religion attractive to people, especially the younger generation. Seek peace with other religions. You don’t need to fight or abuse people who don’t share your religious ideology. Also, don’t misuse your office.”
The Araba of Ibadan, Ifagbola Olalere, praised the Soun’s efforts in promoting culture and tradition and assured the new Araba of his support in performing his duties.
Other speakers at the event, including Dr. Oladejo Akanni, emphasized the importance of using the position to foster unity and respect. Dr. Akanni urged the new Araba to view his role as a privilege and avoid oppressing others.
Earlier in the day, scores of Muslim faithful gathered at the palace for a special prayer session marking the first-year coronation anniversary of Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye.
The day’s activities climaxed with the annual Odun Oole Oba, a traditional event celebrated as part of the ongoing Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival. During the event, tourists and guests joined the five royal families under the historic Ajagbon tree to celebrate the unity and progress of Ogbomosoland.
The cultural showcase drew visitors from various parts of the country and highlighted the rich heritage of the community.
