The disposition of Honourable Saheed Fijabi and Honourable Segun Olaleye (Radical) on Bottomline a weekly political programme on IBR 92.5fm last weekend is indeed commendable.
Before the programme, I was opportuned to read some of the comments on the Anchors facebook page. Many had anticipated a shout match between the two political juggernaults. Some even referred to it as a “derby” apparently, equating their expectation to a clash of notable football clubs in English Premier League.
But, the duo got everybody dissappointed when they brought maturity to bare on the programme. What was meant to be a hot debate turned into an intellectual discourse. It was at this time, that every one listening knew the guys were out to change the narrative. The Host deserve commendation. The candour and depth of the Moderator of such a programme determines what happens eventually. He showed political debate on Radio can have some decorum.
Fijabi and Radical I must confess dissappointed many people including me because rather than give us a heated debate, they threw up issues that enlightened us. They even reached an agreement on certain issues.
Just like many Callers posited on the programme, with this disposition, it shows the future of Oyo State and by extention, that of Nigeria is bright.
I would want other politicians either with political appointment or not to borrow leaf from their conduct. They must eschew this attitude of outwitting the other party during any encounter.
Having said that, the conduct of Fijabi and Radical on that programme leaves much to be desired. I hope it is not what I am thinking! Time shall tell.
