Reopening Of Schools, Our Priority Not Boundary Disputes – Oyo Government

The Oyo State Government has said the meeting on the reopening of 23 schools within Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East and Oyo West Local Government Areas, held yesterday in Ibadan, was essentially not about boundary disputes.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said that the Oyo State government is more concerned about the future of the pupils including the incoming ones, whose education have been literally stopped as a result of the land dispute.

The Commissioner observed that, of the 14 constituencies in Oyo State, Oyo-Afijio constituency records the highest number of out of school children, when it is the policy thrust of this administration to have zero number of out of school children population.

Because of the Emergency situation on hand, those 23 basic schools, will be directly under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in the new academic session, so as to capture the actual number of children that will return to school.

It was well stated at the meeting that the issue of boundary dispute will be effectively handled by the office of the Surveyor-general and other relevant agencies, who will do the needful on the lingering issue, with the backing of government.
