Respite for PDP Aspirants in Oyo as Makinde Set to Issue Directives Ahead 2027

A wave of relief may be on the horizon for aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State as Governor Seyi Makinde is reportedly set to issue critical directives aimed at clarifying the political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A close political ally of the governor, who spoke with Goalpoachernews on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly on the matter, disclosed that Makinde will convene a strategic stakeholders’ meeting following his return from a foreign trip.

According to the source, the closed-door meeting will bring together key figures within the governor’s political structure to deliberate on possible platforms to adopt should the pending Appeal Court judgment fail to favour his faction within the PDP.

“The governor is not leaving the PDP under any circumstance,” the source said. “However, contingency plans are being put in place.

“If the Appeal Court judgment does not go our way and with the likelihood that the matter may not be concluded at the Supreme Court before the Independent National Electoral Commission closes its window for party primaries, some of his candidates may have to contest on another platform.”

The source explained that the move is a strategic safeguard to prevent aspirants aligned with the governor from being locked out of the 2027 race due to protracted legal battles within the party.

Political observers say the development could significantly reshape alignments within the PDP in Oyo State, particularly as factions continue to jostle for control ahead of the next electoral cycle.

In a related development, the governor is also expected to issue directives through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), mandating political appointees who intend to contest elective positions in 2027 to resign from their current offices.

The planned directive, according to the source, is designed to ensure fairness, prevent conflicts of interest, and allow those seeking elective offices to focus fully on their political ambitions.

While the governor has yet to make an official statement, party members and aspirants are said to be awaiting the outcome of the anticipated stakeholders’ meeting, which is expected to provide clarity on the next line of action amid the ongoing legal uncertainties.
