Governor Seyi Makinde’s transformative impact on Oyo State is a story of vision, commitment, and tangible progress. Over the past few years, his administration has rolled out a series of ambitious projects that have fundamentally changed the landscape of the state.

The upgrade of the Ibadan Airport is a pivotal move towards enhancing connectivity and boosting economic activity. This upgrade not only facilitates travel but also positions Oyo as a gateway to other regions, fostering trade and tourism.

Moreover, the governor’s commitment to improving the state’s infrastructure is evident in the extensive road network that now connects all zones of Oyo State. This development has made transportation more efficient, promoting accessibility and enabling businesses to thrive. The roads are the veins through which the lifeblood of commerce flows, and under Makinde’s leadership, they have been revitalized to support growth and development.

Healthcare has also been a priority for Makinde. The remodelling of primary health centers across the state signals a clear commitment to ensuring that citizens have access to quality medical care. This focus on health is crucial, especially in a time when public health is paramount. The investments made in these facilities are bound to improve health outcomes and foster a healthier population, which is essential for sustainable development.

Another significant achievement is the Ibadan Independent Power Project, which aims to address the energy challenges faced by the state. By investing in energy infrastructure, Makinde is not only ensuring a stable power supply but also creating an environment conducive to business and industrial growth. This project is a clear indication of his forward-thinking approach, recognizing that energy is a critical driver of economic development.

As impressive as these projects are, perhaps the most impactful aspect of Makinde’s governance is his approach to employment. Since 2020, when the state recruited over five thousand Secondary School teachers, his administration has taken significant steps to address the pressing issue of unemployment.

In 2024, the recruitment of approximately 15,000 teachers for both primary and secondary schools marks a monumental leap in efforts to bolster the education sector. This recruitment not only enhances the quality of education but also provides thousands of families with much-needed financial stability.

What is particularly noteworthy about this recruitment exercise is its inclusivity. Card-carrying members of opposition parties in the state were also beneficiaries, showcasing Makinde’s commitment to unity and the welfare of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.

This approach effectively undermines the arguments of critics who claim that his governance favors only his supporters. Instead, Makinde’s actions reflect a genuine desire to uplift the entire state.

In addition to education, the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has recruited about 500 new officers, significantly improving road safety and traffic management. The Oyo Hospitals Management Board has also expanded its workforce, bringing in hundreds of doctors, nurses, and pharmacists to enhance healthcare delivery.

The ongoing recruitment by the Civil Service Commission further emphasizes the governor’s dedication to creating sustainable employment opportunities across various sectors.

With each initiative, Governor Makinde dismantles the claims of his detractors, demonstrating that his governance is marked by substantial achievements rather than empty promises. His ability to create employment and improve infrastructure has solidified his reputation as an effective leader. Critics are left scrambling to find fault in an administration that continues to deliver results for the people of Oyo State.

As we look to the future, it is clear that Governor Seyi Makinde possesses the qualities and vision necessary for a national role. His innovative approach to governance, focus on inclusivity, and unwavering commitment to development suggest that he is not only a leader for Oyo State but also a potential leader on a larger stage.

The progress made under his administration is a testament to what effective leadership can achieve, and the people of Oyo State can take pride in the positive trajectory of their governance.
