Suspension of PDP Activities in Olorunsogo, Action Tantamount to Anti-party Activity- Party Chieftains
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Olorunsogo Local Government Area of Oyo State may be embroiled in fresh crisis barely less than two months before the May 2021 local government elections scheduled to hold in the State, with the suspension of party’s activities by a controversial PRO of the party in Olorunsogo Local Government Waheed Yinusa. He posted on Sunday morning on his facebook timeline with the title “Suspension of General and Wards’ Meetings”
According to him, the meetings which usually hold every Monday and Tuesday as decided by the party’s Local Government Working Committee will no longer hold for some reasons.
He added that the activities of the party are hereby suspended indefinitely noting that notice will be sent to members when activities will recommence.
Reacting to the PRO’s post, a chieftain of the party who spoke with GOALPOACHER NEWS correspondent on condition of anonymity, describes the purported suspension of party activities as laughable and the figment of his imagination.
“This is not the time to suspend party activities but rather intensify it to be able to coast to victory in the forth coming LG elections”
” As far as I am concerned, this is an anti party activity plotted by elements used by oppositions to ground the party in the local government in preparation for the emergence of a new political party purportedly planned to contest the forthcoming local government election.”
He stated further that all party members must accord all elders and leaders of the party in the Local Government their due respect, stressing that politics should not be seen as a do or die affair, an avenue to settle scores and exhibit violence or thuggery.
He said in the interest of the party, members should ensure that engagements on all social media platforms should be channeled towards strengthening the party’s structure in Olorunsogo rather than being used to weaken and cause disunity in the party.
Another stalwart of the party in the Local Government described the suspension as a ploy to weaken the party with the view to working against the interest of the party by indulging in anti-party activity.
According to him, “I can tell you authoritatively that we have uncovered the heinous plan.
What they intend to do is to sponsor a candidate from another political party in the forthcoming local government elections.”
“Their plan is to ground all PDP structures in Olorunsogo and to ensure PDP loses the election.
“Their decision can’t stand, it’s unpopular with loyal party members. As law abiding party members, we won’t do anything to impede the progress of our party and hence we will continue to hold our meetings and engage in all credible responsibilities and actions that will promote the already existing acceptance love of our great party in the heart of the good people of Olorunsogo LG
How on earth can a few party executives suspend party activities without genuine reasons and proper comsultations? He concluded.
