As part of the core mandate and unrelenting effort towards ensuring safer roads during the ember months and beyond, the Chairman of Oyo State Park Management System, Alhaji Wasiu Tomiwa Omolewa on Tuesday led members of his executive Committee to the State Headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC on ways to reduce accidents on major roads.

According to Tommy, the major reason for motor vehicle accidents and road carnage is bad roads, unworthy road vehicles, unskilled and unschooled drivers.

Tommy said people have tagged the ember months as deadly months due to the high rate of road accidents, thus, an urgent need to enlighten and sensitise commercial vehicle drivers on the need to make safety their priority and avoid over-speeding while moving from one point to another.

He however, appealed to all commercial drivers to make sure their vehicles are in good condition, their psychological health is stable as well as imbibe patience as a virtue in the discharge of their daily duties.

“Today I visited the Headquarter of The Federal Road Safety Corps Oyo State Command, where I met with the Commandants to discuss the EMBER MONTHS.

“The ember months have a reputation of being a period with high record of terrible road accidents, usually due to the number of people who would be traveling back to their hometowns to spend the holidays with family and friends.

“My people are my priority and their safety is very paramount to me, that’s the reason why i am taking every step to ensure the safety of my people.

“My main purpose of the visit is to deliberate on the modalities to use in combating the road accident in the EMBER MONTHS.

“We concluded on having the Yearly Ember Months sensitisation in a very model and elaborate one to enable both our drivers and passengers to have good knowledge about the months and needs to be very cautious and by the special grace of God the date of the Program would be announced soon.”

“And Please my dear good people of Oyo State, If you would be traveling with your vehicle, avoid over-speeding or making your journey during the nighttime. Before you even hit the road, make sure to service and ensure your vehicle is optimized for the long journey.

“If you would be making use of a commercial vehicle, ensure that you travel with an interstate transport operator you trust. You can also take the extra steps of getting to the park a day before to inspect the vehicle to be used and make sure it is in a proper state.”
