The rarest kind of leader is one who combines a profound love for humanity with an unwavering commitment to his community; a man who possesses the courage to stand where others fear to tread and the conviction to speak when others remain silent in the face of injustice.
Such a man is Dare Adeleke.
On his birthday, the tributes and celebrations that reverberate across Ibadan are more than mere expressions of affection. They are a testament to a life devoted to service, friendship, community and the pursuit of justice. For the many people whose lives he has touched, Adeleke is not merely a political figure; he is a dependable ally, a formidable grassroots mobiliser and, above all, a man who has consistently demonstrated an extraordinary capacity to stand by his people.
Born into the distinguished Adeleke family, the son of the late Barrister Femi Adeleke, a former Director of Public Prosecutions at the Oyo State Ministry of Justice in the 1980s, Dare Adeleke grew up with a strong sense of heritage, responsibility and public service. His roots in Oke Dada, Mapo, Ibadan South East, remain an important part of his identity and his enduring connection with the people.
Although his education and professional journey took him beyond Nigeria, Adeleke returned to the political arena at a defining moment in the nation’s history. As Nigeria emerged from years of military rule and the struggle for democratic governance intensified, he joined other patriots in the formation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which later produced the country’s first elected president of the Fourth Republic, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. Adeleke became the party’s pioneer South-West Zonal Youth Leader.
That early involvement was only the beginning of a long political journey.
Rather than pursue elective office for himself, Adeleke devoted much of his energy to grassroots organisation, political mobilisation and community engagement. Over the years, he has established himself as a formidable political strategist and mobiliser whose influence is rooted not merely in titles, but in relationships built over decades.
His political philosophy is anchored on loyalty. For Adeleke, friendship and political association are not disposable commodities. He stands by those he believes in, through difficult seasons and political storms. His courage and tenacity have earned him the sobriquet “Dare Power” – a name that speaks to the determination with which he approaches both political battles and the challenges confronting those who turn to him for assistance.
But perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Adeleke’s personality is his humanity.
He is widely regarded as a philanthropist who gives quietly, often without publicity or cameras. To many people, reaching Dare Adeleke with a genuine problem is already a step towards finding a solution. He has repeatedly demonstrated that his concern for people extends beyond political calculations or colourations, embracing friends, associates, community members and even people with whom he has no prior relationship.

He is has served his state and nation in different capicities.
Today, as a leader of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adeleke continues to devote himself to political organisation and the advancement of his political ideals.
Beyond the politics, however, is a man whose greatest legacy may ultimately be the human connections he has built. The people who celebrate him today do so because, at different moments in their lives, they have encountered a man willing to listen, intervene, encourage and stand beside them through thick and thin.
