UNEMPLOYMENT:Makinde’s Commissioner, Fakorede Trains Youths on Non-oil Export Businesses

Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and sports, Hon Seun Fakorede on Tuesday trained youths on non-oil export business for their economic self reliance. While delivering his speech on the theme, ‘YOUTHS INVOLVEMENT ON NON-OIL EXPORT BUSINESS FOR ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION’ held at the Western Hall, House of Assembly, Secretariat, Ibadan.

The youngest Commissioner used the occasion to reiterate the present government’s zeal and interest in the welfare of youths and their involvement in the socio-economic and political development of our immediate society and the nation at large. According to the Commissioner, “I am proud that Oyo Sate is the first state implement the programme. This was borne out of the concern and commitment of the present administration on Youth engagement and empowerment.”
Fakorede noted that the present administration under the able leadership of our worthy mentor, Engr Seyi Makinde through the Ministry of Youths and Sports, is ready to partner with well meaning individuals and corporate organizations that are willing to contribute their quota on youth empowerment. “We have no alternative but to invest on our youths. Our failure to do that will have devastating consequences as already witnessed in some parts of this country.

Speaking with journalists after the training, the guest speaker, Bolanle Emmanuel said the purpose of the programme was to enlighten the youths to be able to go into export trade. She noted that majority of the youths wait endlessly for nonexisting jobs, the act which she described as inappropriate. In her words, ” their parents have spent so much on them, even at the peak of the COVID-19. There are lots of opportunities they could engage in to earn their living. By encouraging and sensitising them on what they can do.”

Two of the participants at the training, Ambassador Ojo Olumide and Michael Anitosho commended the Hon Commissioner for Youth and Sports for organizing the training programme. They added that lessons learnt at the training would be utilized in their different endeavors.
The training was attended by Special Assistants to the Governor on Youth and Sports, Sports Development and Students Affairs.
