Varsity Dons Task Oyo Supervisory Councilors, Special Assistants on Improved Communication Skills, Time Management

Newly appointed Supervisory Councilors and Special Assistants in Oyo State have been urged to focus on enhancing their communication abilities to better engage and mobilize their communities for development.

Additionally, they were advised on the importance of effective time management to alleviate stress in their roles.

This guidance was delivered on Wednesday by Professor Victor Oladokun and Professor Kemisola Adenegan from the University of Ibadan during a two-day workshop held at the International Conference Centre. The event, themed, “Modern Trends in Local Government Administration,” was organized by Larryano Global Concept in partnership with the Oyo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

Professor Oladokun emphasized that improving communication skills is essential not only for personal growth but also for the benefit of the community.

He highlighted that effective communication can help political appointees engage with their constituents and foster participation in local development initiatives.

The don stressed the necessity of active listening, as well as strong reading, writing, and speaking skills, to prevent conflicts and promote progress.

In her session on “Time and Stress Management,” Professor Adenegan addressed the pressures associated with deadlines. She pointed out that while time is fixed, managing it effectively can help reduce stress.

Participants were encouraged to prioritize their tasks, delegating less critical responsibilities to ensure that key duties are completed on time.

Deacon Adegbite Omoniyi Felix, a Special Assistant on Road and Transport, called on fellow political appointees to embrace modern practices in local governance to support Governor Engr. Oluseyi Makinde’s initiatives.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration with local government chairpersons and career officers to achieve collective goals.

Mr. Ayo Ayansiji, the Supervisory Councilor for Environmental and Health Services in Itesiwaju Local Government, praised the workshop for its enlightening content, expressing confidence that the insights gained would enhance their effectiveness in serving the community.

Olubunmi Alawode, representing Larryano Global Concept, remarked that the workshop aims to prepare participants for public service while fostering personal growth.

She expressed gratitude for the attendees’ dedication and optimism that they would emerge as more capable public servants committed to their communities.
