The Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Hon. Toyin Balogun, has called for increased awareness about the dangers of Cholera, especially among women and children.

In a statement, the Commissioner emphasised the importance of basic hygiene practices, such as hand washing with soap and clean water, as a critical way of preventing the spread of the disease.

She said: “Cholera can be deadly, and it preys on the most vulnerable in our society, such as women and children. We must take the necessary steps to protect ourselves and our families.”

The commissioner noted that women are often the primary caretakers in households and play a significant role in managing food preparation and family health. As such, they must be at the forefront of efforts to prevent the spread of Cholera.

“Our women are our backbone,” Balogun said. “They must be empowered with the knowledge and resources to protect their families from Cholera.”

The commissioner also called on community leaders and religious figures to amplify awareness campaigns and to provide assistance to families affected by the disease.

“No one should suffer from Cholera in silence,” Balogun asserted.
