As part of a community outreach initiative, security stakeholders have urged for more proactive measures to prevent youths and teenagers from getting involved in drug abuse and substance addiction.

The call was made during a one-day sensitization program organized by the Build Back Foundation, a non-governmental organization, on September 6, 2023, at Iwo Road Roundabout, Ibadan North East Local Government Area.

Honorable Femi Josiah, former Special Assistant on Community Relations to Governor Seyi Makinde, lamented the alarming rate of drug abuse among productive-age youths and teenagers. He commended Governor Makinde’s initiatives to address the root cause of the problem but emphasized that more work needs to be done.

The event featured talks, workshops, and testimonials from individuals who have overcome addiction, aiming to help affected youths and teenagers overcome the temptation of returning to the streets.

Notable speakers included ACP Bamigboye Martins, Chief Imam of Ibadanland Sheikh Abdulganiy Agbotomokekere, and Honorable Sikiru Sanda, Chairman of Egbeda Local Government.

Sanda highlighted the local government’s efforts to engage youths and teenagers in productive activities, assuring that their well-being will remain a top priority.

Stakeholders agreed that security agencies play a critical role in sensitization and building public confidence, and representatives from various organizations shared insights into the consequences of drug abuse and efforts to curb the menace.

The event encouraged attendees to take proactive steps in their communities to combat drug abuse.
