The Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Dahud Kehinde Sangodoyin has said the state government embarked on the dualization of the Agodi Gate – Old Ife Road – Adegbayi Junction (8.2Km) including the Underpass Bridge at Onipepeye due to the expansion of Ibadan.

Professor Sangodoyin revealed this while delivering his welcome address at the commissioning ceremony of the road on Thursday.

He stated that the road, which used to be a single carriage, was awarded to Messrs Kopek Construction Limited in October 2022 and that with the completion of the project, it meant that the Makinde administration has completed 187.42 kilometres of road under Omituntun 1.0 and Omituntun 2.0. His words:

“I am delighted to welcome you all to this epoch making event and elated to witness another landmark achievement of GSM infrastructure Revolution. 2.

“The contract for the dualization of Agodi Gate Old Ife Road – Adegbayi Junction (8.2Km) including the Underpass Bridge at Onipepeye area was awarded to Kopek Construction Limited. On the 26th October, 2022 with one year completion period at a sum of Six Billion, Nine Hundred and Thirty-One Million, Five Hundred and Seventy-Two Thousand, Six Hundred and Seventy-Six Naira, Sixty Five Kobo (Ν6,931,572,676.65).

“This road used to be a single carriage road and due to the city’s expansion to the less city areas of Adegbayi, Agbala-Itura, Celeca and Egbeda, the volume of traffic increased tremendously thereby causing heavy traffic jam in the area.

“This development necessitated the dualization of the road and today, to the glory of God, we are all witnesses to the official commissioning of the road.

” I am also delighted to inform this gathering that in Omituntun 1.0, we had completed 144.37 km of Roads, while in Omituntun 2.0 we had completed 43.05 km of Roads. Altogether we have completed a total of 187.42 km of Roads as at today.

” I cannot conclude my speech without expressing my sincere appreciation and that of the entire staff of my Ministry to His Excellency the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE for his vision, and commitment and unflinching support in the execution of this iconic and economy boosting project.

“Distinguished ladies and it is my pleasure to welcome you all to another history making and un-equalled achievement of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s administration.”
