A chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, has stirred controversy after alleging that popular broadcaster and owner of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, received financial support from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to establish his radio station. Briefingbrew.com reports.

The allegation is coming amid growing political conversations around Oriyomi Hamzat’s reported governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 Oyo State gubernatorial election under the Accord Party.

Olopoeyan made the claim while speaking during a recent radio political discussion on 32FM , where he questioned the source of funding behind Hamzat’s media outfit.

According to him, he was instrumental in introducing Oriyomi Hamzat to Governor Makinde during the buildup to the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State.

“I was the one who took Oriyomi to Governor Seyi Makinde. It was Agidigbo of Ibadan that introduced me to Oriyomi sometime around 2018,” Olopoeyan said.

He further alleged that before gaining prominence, Hamzat was creating content on Facebook and did not possess the financial capacity to establish a radio station independently.

“From 2018 till now, Oriyomi started by creating content on Facebook. People should ask him where he got the money to build a radio station. The money came from Seyi Makinde,” he alleged.

Olopoeyan challenged the broadcaster to publicly explain the source of the funds used in setting up the station.

“Let him tell us where he got the money and where he worked to raise the kind of money needed to establish a radio station. Let him explain the contacts and opportunities that suddenly made it possible for him to own such a media platform,” he added.

The remarks have since generated reactions across political and media circles in Oyo State, especially as Oriyomi Hamzat is being linked with the 2027 governorship race on the platform of the Accord Party.

As of the time of filing this report, Oriyomi Hamzat had not publicly responded to the claims made by Olopoeyan.
