Engr. Kolawole Sheu Adedeji (KSA), the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) candidate for the Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, has commenced the installation of solar-powered streetlights across the constituency’s 20 wards as part of efforts to improve community safety, enhance security and support economic activities.
The initiative, which the candidate says is being funded from his personal resources, is designed to address the need for improved street lighting in strategic locations, including major road junctions, healthcare facilities, market centres, residential estates and other public spaces across Ido and Ibarapa East.
According to the campaign organisation, installation work has been completed and the lights activated in some communities, while the exercise is ongoing in other designated locations across the constituency.
Among the communities and locations listed as beneficiaries are Peace Estate, Abegede, Oderemi, Abese and Elebu Health Centre. Itabo, Maya, Aborerin and other communities are also listed among the locations covered or scheduled to benefit from the intervention.
Speaking on the initiative, Engr. Adedeji emphasised the importance of practical, people-oriented interventions, noting that leadership should be demonstrated through tangible efforts to address the needs of the people.
“Our people deserve safe, well-lit roads and vibrant night-time economies. We do not need to wait until we occupy public office before putting our resources to work for the welfare of our people.
“This solar streetlight project is entirely self-funded as our contribution towards combating darkness, deterring criminal activities and ensuring greater safety for our families, traders and commuters across Ido and Ibarapa East.
“This is just the beginning of greater infrastructural developments to come,” he said.
The campaign organisation disclosed that installation teams remain active across the constituency, with work progressing in designated communities within the 20 wards.
Beyond improving visibility at night, the project is expected to create a more conducive environment for small businesses operating after sunset, facilitate safer movement for residents and commuters, and contribute to security around public facilities and residential areas.
Residents, community leaders and estate executives in beneficiary areas have reportedly welcomed the intervention, describing functional street lighting as an important component of grassroots development and community safety.
The initiative comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the APM candidate’s campaign organisation reaffirming his commitment to community-focused interventions and sustained engagement with residents across Ido and Ibarapa East.
While the installation exercise continues, the project represents an effort by the candidate to address identified community needs through the provision of solar-powered lighting infrastructure across the constituency.
