… Maybe PDP Doesn’t Wish to Retain Oyo
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Alhaji Wasiu Akorede has expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as growing fear among political appointees in Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to publicly declare their ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party stalwart, who spoke with Goalpoacher News on Monday morning via the telephone, said it was worrisome that many serving commissioners, special advisers, and other top government officials were reluctant to openly express interest in governorship and National Assembly positions for fear of being victimized or losing their appointments.
According to the PDP leader, such apprehension could stifle internal democracy and weaken the party’s preparation for future elections.
“In a true democracy, ambition should not be a crime. It is disturbing that most of our people in government are afraid to declare their aspirations simply because they serve under the current administration,” he said.
He urged Governor Makinde to create an atmosphere of freedom within the party, allowing all interested members to pursue their political aspirations without intimidation.
The PDP chieftain emphasized that open competition and early declaration of interest would help the party identify credible candidates and strengthen its chances in the 2027 polls.
As of the time of filing this report, officials of the Oyo State Government had yet to respond to the remarks.
