CSCHEI Commends Tinubu’s “Transformative” Student, Youth Empowerment Policies on International Students’ Day

Civil society organisations have lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they described as “visionary leadership” in advancing student welfare and youth development across Nigeria.

The commendation was issued by the Civil Society Organisations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI) in a statement marking International Students’ Day.

In the letter addressed to the President, CSCHEI, a UN-recognised platform coordinating and promoting civil society and community-based organisations nationwide, praised the administration’s flagship interventions, particularly the Student Loan Scheme and the National Youths Development Initiatives.

According to CSCHEI’s Director-General, Kunle Yusuff (MON), the President’s policies are “unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s young population, the driving force of our nation’s future.”

Yusuff described the Student Loan Scheme as a “landmark policy” that addresses a major barrier to accessing higher education.

“By providing accessible and affordable financing, Your Excellency has opened doors for countless students aspiring to higher education but constrained by financial limitations,” he stated.

Yussuff added that the initiative represented an investment in Nigeria’s intellectual capital, “equipping young minds with knowledge and skills for sustainable development and global competitiveness.”

CSCHEI also praised the administration’s broader National Youths Development Initiatives, which include skills training, entrepreneurship support, job creation programmes, and civic engagement platforms.

These efforts, the organisation said, demonstrated an understanding that empowerment extended beyond academic sectors.

“By prioritising youth empowerment, Your Excellency is cultivating a generation of innovators, job creators, and leaders poised to contribute meaningfully to nation-building,” Yusuff noted.

He further stressed that the initiatives align with the “aspirations of Nigerian youths,” signalling that every young Nigerian is regarded as “a valued stakeholder in the nation’s future.”

As part of its message, CSCHEI urged the Federal Government to establish a National Monitoring and Evaluation Committee that would directly report progress on federal programmes and projects to the Presidency.

The group also called for the creation of a more enabling environment for civic engagement, pledging its readiness to collaborate on initiatives that deliver direct benefits to communities.

Yusuff, however, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his commitment to youth development, adding that, “Your leadership inspires hope and motivates young Nigerians to harness their potential.”

“We look forward to continued partnership as we build a brighter future for all Nigerians,” he said.
