The Chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, has expressed his support for the National Task Team on the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT).

Fagbemi, during the visit of the team, led by Prof. Oladapo Shittu, the National Chairman of the task team and Provost of the College of Medicine at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, said
the support is aimed at enhancing the efforts to eliminate the virus.

The team was accompanied by Mrs. Lami Mayaki, a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist with the National AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, and STIs Control Programme (NASCAP).

Prof. Shittu’s visit focused on reinforcing the importance of collaboration between NASCAP and the local health management board.

The discussions centered on the 2030 target for eliminating HIV transmission from mothers to their children, emphasizing the need for ownership and sustainability of the program within Oyo State’s healthcare system.

However, Dr. Fagbemi warmly welcomed the task team and commended their ongoing efforts in tackling the HIV epidemic.

He acknowledged the crucial role of the Oyo State Hospitals’ Management Board in supporting national health initiatives and pledged the board’s commitment to achieving the ambitious goals set forth by NASCAP.

Dr. Olufemi Adesanya, the Director of Medical Services, who joined Dr. Fagbemi in receiving the team, highlighted the collaborative spirit that is essential for combating public health challenges.

He reiterated the board’s dedication to improving health outcomes in the region.

According to him, the visit underscores a vital partnership aimed at addressing the pressing issues of HIV transmission and ensuring a healthier future for mothers and children across Oyo State.

He added that as the 2030 deadline approaches, the collaboration between NASCAP and local health authorities becomes increasingly important in achieving sustainable health improvements.
