Hon. Dr. Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi-Olajide JP, the member representing Ibadan North Constituency 1 in the Oyo State House of Assembly, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal crises and leadership challenges within the party.
According to a resignation letter made available to newsmen through her media team, the resignation letter dated May 4, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 5, Ibadan North Local Government, the lawmaker said her decision followed unresolved divisions and instability rocking the party in Oyo State and within her constituency.
“I write to formally tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) owing to the lingering internal challenges and unresolved leadership crises that have continued to plague the party both within my constituency and across Oyo State in recent times.”
The lawmaker noted that she remained committed and loyal to the party over the years, which eventually led to her emergence and victory as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly.
“You will recall my steadfast commitment, loyalty, and unwavering dedication to the ideals and principles of the PDP, which culminated in my emergence and subsequent victory as the Member representing Ibadan North Constituency 1 in the Oyo State House of Assembly.”
Adeniyi-Olajide acknowledged the role of the PDP as a platform through which she served the people but stressed that the current atmosphere within the party no longer supports effective service delivery.
“However, the persistent divisions, instability, and internal wranglings within the party have created conditions that no longer support effective representation and the fulfillment of my responsibilities to the good people of Ibadan North Constituency 1.”
Describing the decision as difficult but necessary, the lawmaker said her priority remains the effective representation of her constituents.
“This decision, though difficult, has become necessary in order to enable me focus fully on the mandate entrusted to me by my constituents and to continue serving them with dedication, effectiveness, and sincerity of purpose.”
She also appreciated party leaders, members, supporters, and stakeholders for their support over the years, while assuring her constituents that her next political move would be made known in due course.
“I sincerely appreciate the support, cooperation, and goodwill extended to me by party leaders, members, supporters, and stakeholders over the years. I also assure my supporters and the people of my constituency that my future political direction will be communicated in due course.”
The lawmaker further requested that her name and details be removed from the PDP register and website with immediate effect.
