Makinde Commissions Solarized Medical Oxygen Plant •Project Cost Effective – Dr Akin Fagbemi

Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde has commissioned a solarized medical oxygen plant along with a level 2 Newborn unit in Ibadan to complement his administration’s health policies and reduce instances of infants mortality in the state.

Governor Makinde who commissioned the project at Jericho specialist hospital with the launching of a strategic roadmap for the scale-up of medical oxygen in health facilities (2024-2028), acknowledged that his administration would continue to prioritize any project that would better the lives of the people.

He also explained that the solar powered medical oxygen plant would provide uninterrupted oxygen supply essential to the health sector, noting that the strategic roadmap to scale-up medical oxygen would also offer proper diagnoses to patients battling with hypoxaemia.

In their various goodwill messages, country representative, UNICEF Nigeria Ms Cristian Munduate and representative from the federal ministry of health Dr. Olarenwaju Sulaimon unanimously acknowledged that the project signified the collective resolve to provide fundamental essentials of healthcare to Nigerians, adding that Oyo state has emerged the first state to achieve the national strategic benchmark for sustainable oxygen in medical healthcare.

Earlier, the commissioner for health Dr. Oluwaserimi
Ajetunmobi affirmed that the achievement was a testament to the power of collaboration in addressing critical gaps in healthcare infrastructure while appreciating the UNICEF, IHS Towers, the Governments of Norway and
Canada and Bills &Melinda Gates Foundation.

The chairman hospital management board, Dr Akin Fagbemi also noted that the project would be cost effective and opened to both private and public hospitals for the benefit of all in the state.
