Makinde Warned Against Trusting Serial Defectors as Succession Plot Thickens

The Ibadan Network for Grassroot Development has issued a stark warning to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, regarding the political ambitions of individuals known for their history of party-switching.

As the 2027 gubernatorial race looms, the group is urging Makinde to steer clear of these serial defectors who have shown a blatant disregard for loyalty and integrity.

The group highlighted the dubious political trajectory of these individuals, many of whom abandoned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Accord Party in 2020, 2022 and 2023 and have now found their way to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Their current maneuvering, as they jostle for a position to succeed Makinde, raises serious questions about their motivations, saying, “What if Makinde had lost his reelection bid in 2023? Would these characters be clamoring to succeed him?” the group asserted, emphasizing that these opportunists should not be trusted with power.

The members of the Ibadan Network criticized these defectors for their sudden transformation into self-proclaimed philanthropists, labeling them as individuals who lack honour and values.

“Their philanthropic gestures are mere facades, masking their unprincipled pursuit of power,” the group stated emphatically.

In a passionate appeal, the organisation called upon Governor Makinde to look towards dedicated and loyal party chieftains who possess the qualifications and competencies necessary to lead the state.

“Giving any of these serial defectors PDP tickets for governorship, senatorial, or House of Representatives positions would spell doom for the party,” they warned, indicating that such decisions could jeopardize the integrity and future of the PDP in the state.

The group said as the succession plot thickens, it is critical for Governor Makinde to heed the warning and chart a course that prioritises the values and integrity essential for effective governance, adding that the stakes are high, and the future of the state hangs in the balance.
