Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Communication Technology (ICT) and Cybersecurity, has called for stronger international partnerships to combat rising cybersecurity threats.

This call to action was made during his keynote address at the ongoing Global Cybersecurity Conference in Shanghai, China. The event, which is hosted by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in collaboration with the Shanghai Municipal Government, has attracted cybersecurity experts, policymakers, and representatives from over 20 nations to discuss critical issues related to cybersecurity in the digital era.

Hon. Olajide, representing Nigeria at the event, emphasized the critical need for global cooperation in tackling cybersecurity challenges, which have become increasingly sophisticated and borderless. The lawmaker highlighted the necessity of a unified international approach to ensure a secure digital environment for all nations.

“Cybersecurity is a global issue that demands collective action. No single country can effectively address the evolving cyber threats on its own,” Hon. Olajide remarked. “We must pool our resources, knowledge, and expertise to develop a robust defense against cyber threats.”

He further noted that Nigeria’s active participation in the conference underscores the nation’s dedication to enhancing cybersecurity measures and fostering international collaboration to safeguard critical infrastructures.

The conference features a series of expert presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on training sessions, all aimed at building capacity and sharing best practices among participating countries. A joint statement with actionable recommendations for strengthening cybersecurity cooperation among Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) member nations is expected to be developed by the end of the conference.

Hon. Olajide’s participation at this global forum highlights Nigeria’s proactive stance in addressing cybersecurity challenges through international cooperation and knowledge exchange.
