The Caretaker Chairman Omi Apata LCDA, Sheriff Adeojo on Thursday flagged off the dredging of Abese Oritamerin Elebu river in Ibadan.

Speaking with GOALPOACHER NEWS, the Council chair said,

“This Abese river has been a problem for years for residents of the community, the previous administrations left the river untouched and it has wreaked havoc on the community in the past and we don’t want such to happen anymore.”

Adeojo, who supervised the dredging, added that, “We cannot fold our arms and watch people lose their lives and property to flood . This was why we embarked on the de-silting of blocked drains and the dredging of blocked waterways.

” For us as a government at the grassroots, we are committed to a safe environment.”

“ But our people too have critical roles to play in ensuring that we have a safe environment . It is unacceptable to dump refuse in the drains. Once the drains are blocked , flooding is certain to happen. Whoever is caught dumping refuse in the drains will face the wrath of the law.”

Adeojo however called on residents of his council area to cooperate with Governor Seyi Makinde in his efforts to bring dividends of democracy to the grassroots which had suffered neglects before the advent of Engr Seyi Makinde to the seat of power.
