Wife of the Chairman Caretaker Committee, Asabari Local Council Development Area Kinnikinni Saki, Mrs Jelilat Omirinde has lauded the Oyo State First Lady Her Excellency Mrs Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde for according priority to the welfare of girl child.
According to a release signed by the Council Information Officer Mr. Sule Aderibigbe, Mrs. Omirinde gave the commendation on Friday while speaking at a day sensitization programme organized for parents in the Council area on the need to protect their girl from falling preys to rapists, kidnappers and other social miscreants.
While decrying the alarming rate of anti social behavior in the society, Mrs Omirinde said it became imperative for parents, particularly mothers to monitor the daily activities of their girl child. According to her ” the era of leaving a girl child in the care of older boys or men for whatever reason was gone I view of incessant cases of raping, kidnapping and other acts of terrorism, warning that failure to heed the admonition may lead to unwanted pregnancies, shame to the family as well as premature deaths.
Speaking on the occasion, Messrs Simiat Jimoh and Tiamiyu Rahmat, women leader and students representative respectively identified ignorance and poverty as some of the causes of rape among children at the grassroots level, adding that no amount of money spent on the welfare of our future Leaders was too much.
Also speaking, Mrs. Rofiat Omirinde called for speedy dispensation of justice of rape cases.
