Oluyole Local Government is set to host key stakeholders, including state government officials, industry leaders, and experts, in a meeting aimed at charting a new course for the development of solid minerals and mining operations in the state.

The Chairman, Oyo State Mineral Development Agency, Abiodun Oni, will lead the state government representatives at the event.

The Executive Chairman of Oluyole LG, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, December 2.

The event, which is scheduled to hold at the Oluyole LG Secretariat, Idi-Ayunre, on Wednesday, December 4, will bring together critical players from the solid minerals sector, policymakers, environmental advocates, and business leaders to discuss strategies for improving mining operations while ensuring sustainable development and responsible practices in the industry.

Olatunji disclosed further that the meeting is expected to focus on a range of key issues including deepening stakeholders collaborative efforts, prevention of illegal mining activities, promotion of artisanal and small-scale mining, increasing the state’s revenue from mineral resources, strengthening security measures and sanctions against illegal miners, as well as addressing environmental concerns associated with mining activities.

The Oluyole LG Council boss noted that the gathering is poised to forge a collaborative approach between local and state governments, as well as private sector partners, to create a robust and sustainable framework for mining in Oyo State.

“We believe that Oyo State has enormous potential in its solid mineral resources. The forthcoming meeting will provide a platform for all stakeholders to come together, share ideas, and develop solutions that will benefit the local economy and contribute to growth of Oyo state’s economy. Olatunji stated.

Olatunji noted that Oyo State, with its rich deposits of minerals such as limestone, granite, marble, and other solid mineral resources has long been recognized for its mining potential but has however, faced challenges, including illegal mining activities and environmental degradation often time occassioned by illegal mining activities.

He added that the upcoming stakeholders meeting would be an opportunity to address these issues head-on, with a focus on creating a sustainable mining ecosystem that can benefit both the grassroots people, the state, and the environment.

“The event is expected to come up with actionable recommendations, which will be reviewed and potentially implemented in line with the vision of governor Seyi Makinde towards improving the state’s economy without making the people suffer unduly for anything,” Olatunji added.
