The Chairman, Oyo State Park Management System (PMS), Alhaji (Ambassador) Wasiu Tomiwa Omolewa popularly known as as Tommy has expressed delight over the sighting of the crescent moon which signifies the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan worldwide, describing it as a period of dedication and hardwork in keeping faith with one of the five main pillars of Islam, Sawm (Fasting).
According to Tommy, Ramadan, which is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Holy Quran to Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) kick-started today March 1, 2025.
While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking and engaging in sexual relations.
Ambassador Tomiwa implores all Muslim faithful to seize the opportunity of the Holy month to offer fervent prayers for peace, tranquillity and development of Oyo State during this sacred period.
He further admonishes all Muslims to observe alongside the fasting, other observances in this rare and holy month which include Zakat and Sadaqah (alms giving), Taraweeh prayers, commemorating nights of Al-Qadr, recitation of the Holy Quran and abstaining from all bad deeds and sinful behaviours that may negate the reward of fasting, such as false speech (insulting, backbitting, cursing, lieing etc.) and fighting during and after the month.
