OYRTMA Dissociates Self From Unscrupulous Elements Extorting Motorists in Ibadan

The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), has warned unsuspecting motorists plying Oluyole Local Government Area of the state, of unscrupulous elements parading themselves as agents of the local government, issuing illegal fines and demanding cash payment into private accounts as punitive measures, thereby misleading the public into thinking it is OYRTMA operations on the guise of enforcing the Oyo State Road Traffic Rules and Regulation.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Friday, by the agency’s Public Relations Office and available to journalists.

The statement added: “Our attention has been brought to the unauthorized activities of some unscrupulous individuals marauding as agents of certain Local Government Areas in Ibadan metropolis particularly in Oluyole and Ibadan Southwest LGAs extorting unsuspecting motorists in town on the guise of enforcing the Oyo State Road Traffic Rules and Regulation by issuing illegal fines and demanding cash payment into private accounts as punitive measures thereby misleading the public into thinking it is OYRTMA operations.”

“This is completely against our modus-operandi and outrightly negates our Standard Operating Procedures.”

“In line with His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde’s immense premium on justice for all, accountability and transparency, we dissociate OYRTMA from these illegal activities being perpetrated by non-state actors and condemn it in its entirety.”

“We beseech motorists across the state not to fall victim of these unauthorized individuals but rather report such illegality at the nearest police station or visit our headquarters at the State Secretariat, Ibadan or call +234(0)8114390097 as non of our officers would ever collect cash nor request for transfer of fines into private bank accounts as there are very stringent punitive measures that are usually melted on any officer found culpable of the act.”

“If you see something, please say something. We remain committed to serving the good people of Oyo State with utmost professionalism and commitment to road traffic ethos that meets global standard,” the statement concluded.
