Governor Seyi Makinde created the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2019, setting the stage for a transformative journey that would significantly impacts the lives of residents.

At the helm of this pioneering ministry, Honorable Seun Ashamu has displayed a midas touch in his diligent commitment to work, leading the state towards an era of sustainable energy solutions.

The profound effect of this strategic decision is palpable, as it has redefined the energy landscape in Oyo State.

The ministry’s establishment has not only addressed the energy needs of the state but has also propelled it into a position of enviable progress.

This development underscores Governor Seyi Makinde’s unwavering support for the younger generation, as the appointment of Hon. Seun Ashamu, a dynamic youth, solidifies the trust placed in the competence and potential of the state’s younger population.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s upon appointing the pioneer Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Hon. Seun Ashamu immediately embarked on the “Light-Up Oyo” project in Ibadan’s major cities, achieving resounding success.

The project’s impact was so profound that it expanded to cover all zones in the state. The administration, under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde, made substantial investments in renewable energy, fostering an era of innovation and sustainability.

Such outstanding achievements in his first term earned Hon. Seun Ashamu a well-deserved reappointment as the head of the same ministry, a testament to his commendable performance and dedication to the state’s development.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources had since blossomed, serving as a model for advancing Oyo State’s power projects to new heights.

One of the significant milestones  Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision was the flag off of the 11 MW Hybrid Power Plant, poised for imminent completion in Ibadan.

This ambitious project is set to provide power to various government facilities within the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, and its surroundings.

Upon completion, the 11 MW hybrid power solution will be a game-changer, benefiting:

    1. Healthcare Facilities: It will power 12 healthcare facilities, including Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital and State Hospital Ring Road. The state government has invested substantially in state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment equipment at these hospitals, with a direct impact on approximately 15,622 patients annually.

    2. Public Lighting: This Independent Power Producer (IPP) will also illuminate a radius of no less than 10 km under the ‘Light-Up Oyo’ project, creating safer and more vibrant public spaces.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s steadfast support for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the remarkable accomplishments under the leadership of Commissioner Seun Ashamu demonstrate a commitment to building a brighter, sustainable future for Oyo State. This visionary partnership signifies an ongoing journey towards innovative energy solutions, as these brilliant minds continue to add meaningful chapters to the state’s development story.

    God bless our amiable Governor!
